Israeli Actor Ayelet Zurer in New PETA Anti-Fur Ad: ‘It’s a Bloody Horror Show’

Kneeling on top of a fur coat, her hands dripping with the dead animal’s “blood,” Israeli actor Ayelet Zurer appears in a new PETA campaign that proclaims, “If You Wear Fur, You’ve Got Blood on Your Hands.”

“What’s wrong about the industry is that millions of animals all over the world—animals that are similar to the animals we know at home, like dogs and cats—are skinned down, beaten down, in the most horrific and cruel way just for the sake of fashion,” Zurer says in an accompanying video spot. “We are in 2018, and it just doesn’t make any sense that people still buy fur when they can buy the same thing made out of man-made fur that looks exactly and feels the same.”

PETA’s campaign featuring Zurer comes in the wake of announcements by Michael Kors and Gucci that they’ll no longer use fur, following years of PETA protests and negotiations. Other designers who’ve dropped fur include Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and Giorgio Armani, who made the decision after being targeted with this exposé of rabbit-fur farms.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—has made a major push over the years to expose the cruelty to animals who are caged, beaten, electrocuted, and even skinned alive for angora, exotic skins, fur, leather, and wool. Zurer is part of a long list of celebrities—including Penélope Cruz, Anjelica Huston, Carol Leifer, Eva Mendes, and Natalie Portman—who have joined forces with PETA to promote kindness to animals.
