PETA Joins Vacaville Police in Search for Person Who Tied Dog’s Legs Together, Tossed Him out of Window

Shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, shocked motorists on I-80 saw someone driving a blue Toyota Prius toss a small white dog, with his back legs tied together, out onto the freeway near the Davis exit. Before the witnesses were able to help him, he was hit by another car and killed. He was later discovered to have been Rex, a dog who had been reported missing from his home earlier that day.

“He was the sweetest little dog,” his guardian, Deb Ferrara, told Fox 40. “He was my 24/7 companion.” She added, “I wonder how scared he was. Nobody should be that scared.”

Police are investigating but have yet to make any arrests in connection with the incident, prompting PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—to offer a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges of the person or persons responsible for this horrible crime.

“While this little dog’s guardian was hoping for him to return home, someone tied him up and tossed him onto the freeway to die,” says PETA Vice President Collen O’Brien. “PETA needs the public’s help in solving this case before this dog’s abuser attacks anyone else.”
