Starting Monday, both Theta Chi and Theta Xi of the University of California–Davis (UC-Davis) will embark on the Vegan Frat Challenge hosted by peta2, PETA’s youth division, and UC-Davis’ own People for the Elimination of Animal Cruelty through Education (PEACE).
For a full week, the fraternities, peta2, and PEACE will post live updates on social media as frat members, their friends, and other students enjoy vegan food, guest speakers, film screenings, and other special events on campus, capped off by a vegan BBQ on Friday evening at Theta Xi. Plus, both fraternities’ kitchens have been stocked with vegan food donated by Miyoko’s Kitchen, Kite Hill, Daiya, Follow Your Heart, Chao, Field Roast, and Chipotle.
“Theta Chi’s and Theta Xi’s vegan pledge is right in step with the global movement toward cruelty-free, eco-friendly eating,” says peta2 Senior Director Marta Holmberg. “peta2 looks forward to helping these adventurous frat brothers show UC-Davis how easy and delicious on-campus vegan dining can be.”
peta2—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—will join the fraternities for a private vegan cooking demonstration on Monday evening as well as for the following events, which are all open to the public:
Tuesday: Vegan Bodybuilding: Gains Demystified, with guest speakers Jeff Morgan and Vegan Bros—followed by a gym session and vegan dinner from Taco Bell
3 Kleiber Hall, 8 p.m.
Wednesday: What the Health Documentary Screening, with guest speaker Dr. Michael Klaper
3 Kleiber Hall, 7 p.m.
Thursday: Earthlings Documentary Screening
Sciences Lecture Hall 123, 7 p.m.
Friday: Vegan BBQ
