Video: For Rescued Marley, Every Little Thing Gonna Be Alright

For more than five years, Marley was kept chained up in a backyard and given almost no attention from his owners. His food often consisted of Cheerios in a dirty pan—or nothing at all—and his water bucket was usually green with algae and debris. His owner would hit him on the head for getting “too excited,” and the only word that he understood was “no.” He was so neglected that he didn’t even recognize his own name.

But as this new video shows, all that changed when, after five years of effort by PETA fieldworkers, his owner finally relented and surrendered him to PETA. Marley’s body was infested with parasites, and he was starving for nourishment and affection. As he received medical care at our shelter, he soaked up all the attention he could get. PETA staffer Michael Moss couldn’t help being drawn in by the spunky little fellow with unshakeable spirit. And soon, Marley found his permanent family.

Now, Marley has a warm couch to sleep on, a friend named Kyah to play with, and all the treats and snuggles he can handle. “I really, really liked his little attitude … and [his] spirit that … wasn’t going to be broken,” says Moss. “He’s got toys, bones, treats, and Kyah—and a big backyard he can play in. … That’s all I really want. I just want him to be happy.”
