H&M Promptly Pulls Offensive ‘Dogfight’ Sweatshirt After PETA Plea
After PETA pointed out that dogfighting—in which two dogs are pitted against each other and forced to rip each other to shreds—is horrific and illegal, H&M pulled the sweatshirt that read, “Dogfight in Random Alley,” from its stores.
Kind shoppers were appalled to see H&M selling a sweatshirt that glorified dogfighting. Removing this hoodie from the racks was the right thing to do, and PETA trusts that H&M will learn from this incident and never again stock clothing that endorses the exploitation and abuse of animals.
Dogfighting is illegal in all 50 states. Dogs used in these fights are kept in tiny cages or outdoors on heavy chains 24 hours a day—horrific conditions for highly social pack animals. After fights, dogs are left ripped apart, bloody, soaked in urine and saliva, unable to walk, barely able to stand, and covered with cuts, bruises, and scars. Those who manage to survive but lose the fights are often killed by their handlers.
Urge H&M to Stop Selling Animal Skins, Too
H&M says that no animal should ever suffer in the name of fashion, yet the retailer continues to sell leather. PETA investigations prove that no matter where it comes from, leather is a product of cruelty.
H&M already uses innovative vegan leather options that mimic the style and aesthetic of leather, and more consumers than ever are wearing vegan clothing because of their concern for the environment and animals. Committing to selling only vegan leather would legitimize H&M’s claims of being ethical and sustainable and mark it as a true industry leader.
