Statement From PETA re Arrest of Dog Stabber, Killer

Below, please find a statement from PETA President Ingrid Newkirk regarding the arrest of Brendan Evans, the Florida man charged with cruelty to animals in the death of Ollie, the dog who died after being stabbed dozens of times and stuffed into a suitcase:

PETA is grateful to the Hollywood Police Department for its diligence and use of forensic science in making an arrest in the case of this dog’s violent and terrifying death. The FBI has identified cruelty to animals as a sign of psychopathy, a red flag indicating a high risk for committing future acts of violence that pose a danger to the entire community, as evidenced by the history of animal torture and abuse that has been linked to every serial killer and school shooter. PETA reminds everyone to report cruelty to animals and be vigilant in looking out for animals in need, including by investigating or reporting any crying and wailing or other unusual sounds coming from buildings or rooms and never selling or giving away animals on sites such as craigslist, because they may end up with someone with evil intentions.

Because DNA evidence on the suitcase reportedly identified Evans, PETA’s reward of up to $5,000 will not be claimed. PETA’s motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way,” and more information about PETA’s work to help animals is available at PETA.org.
