What: PETA “coyotes” and “bloody geese” holding graphic posters showing coyotes in traps and dead geese will gather for a spirited protest against Canada Goose’s new store in Boston on Fur-Free Friday. Because it’s the busiest shopping day of the year, PETA supporters will hold dozens of protests nationwide.
When: Friday, November 24, 9:30–11:30 a.m.
Where: Prudential Center, 800 Boylston St., Boston
The protest in Boston follows a recent PETA video exposé of a Canada Goose down supplier that revealed that workers rounded up terrified geese who piled on top of one another in an attempt to escape. At least one bird was apparently crushed to death, and others suffocated. Workers shoved surviving birds into cramped cages for a long journey to the slaughterhouse, where they would be shackled upside down and their throats would be slit.
“Lined with feathers from petrified geese and trimmed with fur from wild coyotes who were caught in steel traps, Canada Goose’s coats are animal graveyards,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA asks shoppers to shun these vile jackets and choose vegan clothing instead.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—notes that trapped coyote mothers desperate to get back to their starving pups have attempted to chew off their own limbs to escape.
