Reward of Up to $5,000 Offered for Help Catching Dog Killer

PETA Joins Police in Seeking Information on Culprit(s) Who Dumped a Decapitated Dog in a Blue Cooler

On the morning of Monday, November 13, a South Florida woman made a gruesome discovery: Someone had decapitated and dismembered a dog who appeared to be a German shepherd, stuffed the remains into a blue cooler, and left the cooler in a field near N.E. 21^st Avenue and 159^th Street.

North Miami Beach Police are investigating the incident but have yet to make any arrests in the case, prompting PETA to offer a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges of the person or persons responsible for this crime. PETA’s reward, in addition to the one offered by Miami-Dade & the Florida Keys Crime Stoppers, brings the total reward offer to up to $6,000.

“Somebody knows where this dog came from and how his or her dismembered body ended up in an abandoned cooler,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA urges anyone with information about this case to come forward immediately so that whoever may be responsible for this dog’s death can be held accountable and stopped from hurting anyone else.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—advises families to keep their animal companions safe indoors and never leave them unattended outside, where they may be taken or hurt by cruel people. Dogs should always be accompanied in the backyard and escorted on walks on a comfortable, secure harness and leash.
