Just in time for Thanksgiving, compassionate politi-punks Justin Sane and Chris No. 2 from the seminal punk band Anti-Flag have teamed up with chef Roberto Martin to cook a mouthwatering all-vegan holiday spread in an inspirational new video for peta2, PETA’s youth division. Under Martin’s guidance, the duo prepares a slew of simple and delicious vegan dishes—including wilted Brussels sprouts with shiitake “bacon,” balsamic glazed carrots, and gluten-free cornbread- and mushroom-stuffed acorn squash—to tempt fans into keeping animals off their plates over the holidays and throughout the year.
“[W]e always enjoy being together with our family and … friends, even if some of them don’t see eye to eye with us on our political stances or maybe the way we eat,” says Chris No. 2.
“We do live in a society where we have an economic system that celebrates excess,” adds Justin Sane. “But one way that we can turn that around and bring something positive to it is when you think about what you’re putting in your body, when you think about what you’re going to eat: whether you’re going to hurt an animal or whether you’re going to get outside of that world.”
peta2—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—emphasizes that meat, eggs, and dairy “products” contain no fiber and are loaded with contaminants, saturated fat, and cholesterol. Switching to vegan eating spares more than 100 animals a year prolonged misery and a terrifying death—and is more effective at countering climate change than switching from a standard car to a hybrid.
Anti-Flag previously starred in two pro-vegan campaigns for peta2 and is part of a growing list of celebrities—including Davey Havok, Matt & Kim, Best Coast, and Travis Barker—who have teamed up with the group to promote kindness to animals.
