Reward Reaches Over $30,000 After Dog Stuffed in Suitcase Dies From His Injuries

PETA Will Help Fund Forensic Investigation to ID Person or Persons Who FBI Studies Show Pose Risk to Animals, Humans: Community Help With Poster Distribution Sought

The dog who Hollywood police discovered beaten, stabbed 50 times, and stuffed inside a suitcase has died, so PETA is doubling its reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty-to-animals charges of the person or persons responsible for the violent attack—an act that indicates that whoever is responsible is likely a risk to the whole community, both humans and other animals. Crime Stoppers and others are putting up funds as well, making a grand total of more than $30,000 in claimable reward money. PETA is also offering to help fund forensic evidence analysis, and the group is seeking community support to distribute posters widely.

 “Someone out there knows something about this horrific attack,” says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange. “Whoever did this is downright dangerous, and it’s urgent that anyone with information come forward to prevent others from being hurt.”

The FBI, other law-enforcement officials, and social psychologists concur that those who commit acts of willful cruelty to animals are likely to go on to harm humans as well. All serial killers and school shooters have a history of extreme cruelty like that seen in this case. PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—is offering to help fund a forensic investigation, in which fingerprints, hair samples, and other evidence will be examined, to help catch the perpetrator(s). Members of the community can also help by distributing hundreds of PETA fliers around the area. The free updated downloadable poster is available here for local residents to post in businesses, schools, and sports centers; on community bulletin boards; and anywhere else that they’re welcome.
