Around 1 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Hollywood police made a horrifying discovery by an abandoned building at 1945 Lee St.: A paw was sticking out of a suitcase, and cries were coming from inside it. Officers opened the suitcase to discover a male pit bull with lacerations all over his head and body. They rushed him to a veterinary clinic, where a veterinarian determined that the dog, now named Ollie, had been beaten and stabbed several times.
Police are investigating but have yet to make any arrests in the case, prompting PETA to offer a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty-to-animals charges of the person or persons responsible for this heinous crime.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—is also asking people to help spread the word and put up free downloadable posters, available here, in businesses and schools, on bulletin boards, and anywhere else that they are allowed to display them.
“Someone is behind the cruel attack on this dog,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA is calling on anyone who recognizes this animal or this suitcase to come forward immediately so that whoever stabbed, beat, and tried to hide this suffering dog in a suitcase can be stopped from hurting anyone else.”
Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact the Hollywood Police Department at 954-967-4411.
