PETA has named the Hottest Vegan Firefighters from all over the world, and sizzling Spotsylvania resident Jessica Spangler has nabbed a spot on the list. She grew up hunting and lived next to a pig slaughterhouse—but two years ago, she went vegan to improve her health, and she has since learned about the cruelty of the meat and dairy industries and become a committed animal rights proponent.

When she’s not advocating for spaying and neutering companion animals or teaching her sons to avoid circuses that bully animals into performing confusing and sometimes painful tricks, Jessica can be found bringing delicious dairy- and egg-free chocolate cakes into the fire station to share with her team. She says eating vegan keeps her energy up—she never feels sluggish, even on long days.

“As a vegan firefighter, Jessica is ready to save animals from burning buildings and she saves more than 100 animals a year from being killed for food,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “Every firefighter in PETA’s Hottest Vegan Firefighters feature shows how smoking-hot, strong, and sweet vegans can be.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—offers free vegan starter kits for everyone who wants to be a lifesaver for animals by going vegan, just like their local firefighting heroes.
