A Kingston family made a horrifying discovery on the evening of September 11: Someone had apparently reached through the fence around their Castell Road backyard and stabbed their dog Bridget, leaving her with severe wounds on her back and sides. Her guardians rushed her to veterinary care—and they alerted authorities both to the attack on Bridget and to a previous, similar attack on her sister, Lexi, at the end of June.

Authorities believe that the assailant or assailants reached the dogs through the fence adjoining the south end of the parking lot at 507 Days Rd. Police are investigating but have yet to make any arrests in the case, prompting PETA to offer a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for these crimes.

“These dogs’ backyard should have been a safe haven for them, but someone reached in and stabbed them, leaving them with deep, bleeding wounds,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA is calling on anyone with information about this disturbing case to come forward immediately, before whoever attacked these dogs strikes again.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—cautions families to keep an eye on animal companions when they’re outside and never leave them unattended in the backyard.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact Detective Clint Wills with the Kingston Police at 613-549-4660, extension 6266, or [email protected].
