PETA has named the Hottest Vegan Firefighters from all over the world, and sizzling Shorewood resident Jim Gray has nabbed a spot on the list. Gray went vegan to improve his health—and after just a few months of vegan eating, he went from taking six medications a day for treating high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and migraines to taking no medication at all.
He and his wife—also a vegan firefighter who made PETA’s list!—have two children and five adopted dogs, and they’re passionate about encouraging everyone to combat the homeless-animal overpopulation crisis through spaying and neutering. With the Bolingbrook Fire Department, where Gray has worked for 15 years, he has rescued numerous animals and humans from house fires—and he prompted his station to purchase oxygen masks designed for animals to aid in rescues.
“Going vegan drastically improved Jim Gray’s health and boosted the energy that he uses to run ultramarathons, fight fires, and save animal and human lives,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “Every firefighter in PETA’s Hottest Vegan Firefighters feature shows how smoking-hot, strong, and sweet vegans can be.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—offers free vegan starter kits for everyone who wants to be a lifesaver for animals by going vegan, just like their local firefighting heroes.
