With a chalkboard behind them and a “class” of attentive companion animals in front, Grammy Award–winning bandmates Jesse & Joy star in a new PETA campaign that proclaims, “Fixing Animal Homelessness Isn’t a Trick That We Can Teach Them. Always Spay and Neuter.” The brother and sister—who are guardians to a dog, Apple, and a cat, Ramón—send the important message that companion animals should be treated like family, should be adopted from shelters and “fixed,” and should never be bought from breeders.
“It’s extremely important to spay and neuter your cat or your dog,” says Joy in an exclusive accompanying video spot.
“Even though there’s a huge population of cats and dogs, there’s a huge lack of humans that are responsible,” adds Jesse. “If you take the big step of adopting a pet, you’re taking the big responsibility of having that life depending on you.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—notes that millions of unwanted cats and dogs enter animal shelters every year and many of them are euthanized because there simply aren’t enough good homes. Countless more suffer on the streets throughout the U.S. and Latin America. The best way to stop animal homelessness is prevention through spaying and neutering.
Jesse & Joy join a long list of celebrities—including Gaby Moreno, George Lopez, Edward James Olmos, Eva Mendes, Kate del Castillo, Fifth Harmony, Morrissey, P!nk, and Noah Cyrus —who have teamed up with PETA or its affiliates to promote kindness to animals.
