PETA Joins Police in Search for Animal Missing From Alley Pond Environmental Center

A 17-year-old tortoise named Millennium was discovered missing on Monday afternoon from the Alley Pond Environmental Center in Queens. The perpetrator(s) are believed to have broken into the animal shelter sometime over the weekend, damaging a fence to gain entry.
Police are investigating the incident but have yet to find Millennium or make any arrests in connection with his theft, prompting PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—to offer up to $5,000 for information leading to his safe return as well as the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who abducted him.
“Millennium was the victim of a brazen kidnapping, and his fate now is unknown,” says PETA Vice President of Communications Colleen O’Brien. “PETA is calling on anyone with information to come forward so that this tortoise can be safely returned and those responsible held accountable.”
