PETA Joins Manitoba RCMP in Seeking Information on Culprit(s) Who Threw Puppy Into Fire Pit

On the evening of Sunday, May 7, an 8-month-old dog named Polo was reportedly thrown into a fire pit in Red Sucker Lake. His family arranged for him to be rushed to Winnipeg for emergency veterinary care for the second-degree burns covering most of his body. The fire also singed away most of his fur and left him with a swollen throat and lungs and ulcers on his eyes, but he’s expected to recover.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Manitoba is investigating but has yet to determine who burned Polo, which is why PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges of the person or persons responsible for this crime.

“Somebody out there tried to burn this puppy alive, leaving him with second-degree burns all over his body,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA urges anyone with information about this case to come forward immediately so that whoever tortured this dog can be held responsible and stopped from hurting anyone else.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—advises families to keep their animal companions safely indoors and never leave them unattended outside, where they may be taken or hurt by cruel people. Dogs should always be accompanied in the backyard and escorted on walks on a comfortable, secure harness and leash.
