What:    Ten-year-old Gifted and Designated Survivor star and PETA supporter Mckenna Grace will travel to Toronto on Thursday to support Ontario activist Anita Krajnc on the morning of her court hearing. Krajnc faces up to six months in jail and a $5,000 fine for giving water to dehydrated slaughter-bound pigs on a sweltering day in June 2015—a high-profile case that’s been hash-tagged #pigtrial on social media. Mckenna will lead a vigil for Anita on Thursday morning and will also speak a few hours later at the courthouse where the verdict will be announced. Both she and Anita will be available for interviews following the hearing.

Vigil:    Thursday, May 4, 7–8 a.m. at Fearmans Pork Inc.

821 Appleby Line, Burlington (near the intersection of Harvester and S. Service roads)

Hearing:    Thursday, May 4, 9–11 a.m. at Milton Courthouse

Superior Courtroom No. 6, 491 Steeles Ave. E., Milton

“It’s sad that Anita Krajnc might be sent to jail just because she gave sweet, scared pigs some cold water in the final moments of their lives,” says Mckenna, who previously starred in a video urging guardians not to leave their animal companions in hot cars and a PETA Kids ad proclaiming, “Animals Are Friends!”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that consuming pork, ham, bacon, and other animal flesh automatically supports some of the worst violence on Earth: Piglets’ bred for slaughter are separated from their mothers at only 10 days old, their tails and testicles are cut off without painkillers, and they’re electrocuted, improperly stunned, and scalded to death in hot water meant to soften their skin.
