What: PETA President Ingrid Newkirk will reveal what it means to be an unstoppable force for animals in a special address in Atlanta designed to help people understand PETA’s motto: “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.” The event, which is part of her international speaking tour, “Unstoppable,” will include a special Vegan Food Faire and Marketplace featuring local cruelty-free vendors.
When: Saturday, March 18—The vegan market opens at 11 a.m., and Newkirk’s talk follows at 12:30 p.m.
Where: Conference Center at Atlanta Metropolitan State College, 1630 Metropolitan Pkwy. S.W., Atlanta
“A hen in an egg-factory cage, an elephant in a circus boxcar, and a monkey in laboratory restraints have no recourse but to rely on compassionate people to speak up,” says Newkirk. “PETA is here to share how sticking our necks out for animals can change the world.”
Newkirk and PETA are no strangers to Atlanta. Among other recent efforts, the group challenged Fulton County’s recent inspection of UniverSoul Circus, spoke out against the Georgia Aquarium’s unsuccessful bid to import wild-caught belugas for a lifetime of imprisonment, recognized Delta Air Lines for its new policy prohibiting animals from traveling with baggage in the cargo hold, and brought a life-size mechanical bear to town to urge families to stay away from the nearby Yellow River Game Ranch, where bears and other animals have been displayed in decrepit cages.
