PETA Awards Electricians Who Rescued Cat Missing for 9 Days

When Juno fell out of her guardian’s van on Christmas Day, her frantic family members canceled their holiday travel plans in order to look for her. They put up “missing” posters, and spent days searching, but they weren’t able to find her.

Nine days later, when Dagle’s electrical workers were doing maintenance on an interstate overpass, they discovered a cat hiding on a steel girder 80 feet above the ground and recognized her from the “missing” posters—so they bought some cat food, lured her into a worker’s arms, and lowered her safely to the ground. They reunited Juno with her family the next day.

“These workers went out of their way to coax this beloved cat to safety and reunite her with her overjoyed family members,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA hopes their story will inspire people everywhere to keep an eye out for animals in need of assistance.”

PETA presented Dagle Electrical Construction with a Compassionate Action Award in honor of its January 4 rescue of Juno, and also threw in a box of delicious vegan cookies.

Look Out for Your Loved Ones

The safest place for feline companions is indoors. Like cats who escape accidentally, those who are allowed to roam outdoors may catch diseases such as feline AIDS, be hit by cars, be intentionally harmed by cruel humans, or become stranded like Juno. PETA encourages anyone who spots a cat stuck in a tree or on a high structure to call authorities for help immediately.
