‘Goat’ to Be Mutilated by ‘Soldiers’ to Protest Real-Life Military Training

What: Dressed in military-style uniforms, PETA members will hack apart a realistic “goat” outside the U.S. Marine Corps Recruiting center in Jacksonville on Tuesday. With signs proclaiming, “Docs & Veterans Want to End Crude Mutilation Drills,” the protesters will call for an end to the military’s inferior, expensive, and cruel trauma drills on live animals performed for Camp Lejeune personnel.

PETA notes that live goats’ legs are broken and cut off with tree trimmers and pigs are shot, stabbed, burned, and cut apart by the U.S. military in training drills—which the Department of Defense’s own researchers say should be replaced with widely available, superior human-patient simulators.
“Hacking apart live goats won’t train service members to treat human patients,” says PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo. “PETA is calling on Camp Lejeune and the Department of Defense to replace these archaic drills with the best training possible—and that’s effective, economical, and ethical human-patient simulators.”
