Photos: You Won’t See This Snow Globe in Santa’s Workshop
While holiday shoppers were looking for treasures, PETA members were inflating a life-size snow globe at malls in Boise, Idaho; Reno, Nevada; and Salt Lake City. But inside the globe, shoppers didn’t find a festive holiday scene. Instead, they saw PETA members wearing “wool” sweaters, hats, and mittens and beating up realistic-looking sheep.
The eye-catching display is part of PETA’s #WoolFreeWinter campaign—an effort to inform shoppers that sheep are beaten, punched, kicked, and even killed by hurried shearers, who are usually paid by volume, not by the hour, and often leave bloody, gaping wounds on sheep’s bodies. PETA even has footage showing that workers cut flesh off sheep’s backsides with shears.
This holiday season, please scratch wool off your shopping list and opt for vegan apparel and other animal-friendly items instead.
