Festival Agrees Not to Use Animals in Giveaways and Sales
July 2007
After learning that a carnival game vendor notorious for handing out live animals – such as rabbits – as prizes to fair attendees was to be at the Delta Fair and Music Festival in Memphis, Tennessee, PETA contacted the fair’s owner, Mark Lovell. We explained that giving away animals at such an event to people ill prepared to provide proper care could result in neglected, discarded, or even dead animals. Lovell assured us that no animals would be distributed at this year’s fair and also created a compassionate policy prohibiting animal giveaways and sales at all future festivals.
