Colonial Properties Trust Bans Exotic-Animal Displays
January 2004
PETA received complaints from mall shoppers that an exotic-animal display called “The Zoo” was set up at Colonial Mall Temple in Texas. We contacted the mall manager, as well as the CEO of Colonial Properties Trust, which owns the mall, asking that the company prohibit animal displays at all its locations. Colonial Properties Trust is one of the largest diversified real-estate investment trust firms in the U.S., with more than 100 properties in nine states. We also posted an action alert calling for letters to the company. Subsequently, the company decided that it would not allow animal exhibits at any of its properties.
