What: As part of her Unstoppable tour, PETA President Ingrid Newkirk will reveal what it means to be an unstoppable force for animals during a special address in Houston designed to help people understand PETA’s motto: “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.”
When: Saturday, October 8, 2 p.m.
Where: Alley Theatre, 615 Texas Ave., Houston
“A hen in an egg-factory cage, an elephant in a circus boxcar, and a monkey in laboratory restraints have no recourse but to rely on compassionate people to speak up,” says Newkirk. “PETA is here to share how sticking our necks out for animals can change the world.”
Newkirk and PETA are no strangers to Houston. Among other efforts, the group put on an Earth Day display in which a woman wore a stunning gown made of collard greens, aired a powerful ad campaign starring actor and author Robbyne Kaamil during the Today Show while a circus was in town, exposed cruel rat experiments at the University of Houston–Clear Lake, and issued urgent hot-weather safety tips for animals and kids after a local child was left in a hot car.
