“Students at Harvard and across the country are embracing tasty vegan meals and snacks that keep them healthy, save animals’ lives, and help the environment,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “Harvard students may be missing out on vegan options in their dining halls because of the strike, but PETA is making midterms a little sweeter with delicious dairy-free treats.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—notes that going vegan dramatically shrinks one’s carbon footprint and spares more than 100 animals every year daily suffering and a terrifying death in today’s industrialized meat, egg, and dairy industries. PETA’s youth division, peta2—which awarded Harvard an “A” for vegan-friendliness on its Vegan Report Card—has documented that the popularity of vegan food on college campuses has more than doubled over the last two years.
