On September 23 around 5 p.m., the remains of two dogs authorities believe had been tied with rope and burned to death were discovered near Church and Farris avenues in southwest Fresno. Butane gas tanks were found scattered near the bodies of the dogs, who are both believed to have been strays. Police have yet to make any arrests in the case, which is why PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the crime.
PETA’s contribution—combined with the $1,000 offered by the Central California SPCA—brings the total reward to $6,000.
Graphic images of the deceased dogs provided by the Central California SPCA can be found here.
“It’s hard to imagine the excruciating agony and terror these dogs felt while they were likely tortured and burned alive,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA urges anyone with information to come forward immediately before someone else gets hurt.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—advises families to keep their animal companions safely indoors, never leave them unattended outside, and always have them spayed or neutered to help curb the overpopulation of homeless animals.
Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to call the Central California SPCA at 559-233-7722 or report a complaint online at CCSPCA.com.
