‘Unstoppable’ PETA President Bringing New Speaking Tour to Portland
City’s First Lady Will Introduce Ingrid Newkirk, Who Has Gone Naked, Faced Arrest, and Changed Attitudes Toward Animals Worldwide

What: PETA President Ingrid Newkirk will reveal what it means to be an unstoppable force for animals in a special address at Portland’s Cerimon House designed to help people understand PETA’s motto: “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.” The event, which is part of Newkirk’s international speaking tour, Unstoppable, will include an introduction from Portland’s first lady, Nancy Hales, and a lively stage interview with questions from the audience.

“A hen in an egg-factory cage, an elephant in a circus boxcar, and a monkey in laboratory restraints have no recourse but to rely on compassionate people to speak up,” says Newkirk. “PETA is here to share how sticking our necks out for animals can change the world.”
Newkirk and PETA are no strangers to Portland. Among other efforts, the group recently named Portland the Most Vegan-Friendly U.S. City, honored the Moda Center as one of the top five vegetarian-friendly NBA arenas, celebrated food truck Of Roots and Blooms for switching to all-vegan fare, recognized a Portland man for saving a dog who fell from a 14th-floor balcony, and donated vegan jerky to a Portland homeless shelter.
