Please see the following statement from PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman regarding the California Orca Protection Act, which Gov. Jerry Brown just signed into law today:
Thanks to Gov. Jerry Brown, California has become the first state to ban captive orca breeding, ensuring that future generations of orcas will not endure the deprivation, stress, and frustration of being trapped in a tiny concrete tank. As PETA celebrates this historic move, we urge people everywhere to think of this as a first step—and help protect orcas by steering clear of abusement parks like SeaWorld until all the animals held in captivity are moved to seaside sanctuaries.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—thanked Gov. Brown earlier this week for passing California’s bullhook ban.
