Attention all puffer jacket lovers: Select Bloomingdale’s and Saks Fifth Avenue luxury department stores will have new cruelty-free digs on their racks, just in time for back-to-school shopping! Beginning this fall, head to your nearest location to pick up a limited-edition synthetic down jacket from Save the Duck—and as the new tags on the jackets point out, a percentage of sales from Save the Duck’s fall collection sold at these locations will go toward PETA’s lifesaving work to help animals. Saks Fifth Avenue will carry kids’ sizes only (at select stores), while Bloomingdale’s is set to launch men’s, women’s, and boy’s options (at select stores).
PETA’s #SaveTheDuck campaign urges shoppers to choose down-free outerwear like Save the Duck’s revolutionary Plumtech™ technology, which retains its insulating capability in all weather conditions and spares ducks and geese suffering. In 2012, PETA released footage of struggling birds who were plucked so hard for the down industry that their skin was torn open, and earlier this year, PETA exposed that companies claiming a “Non Live-Plucked Products Guarantee” or “Responsible Down Standard” were actually linked to farms that plucked live birds.
There’s no getting around it: The future of fashion is forward-thinking, with an ever-growing selection of fabrics like high-performance synthetic down and supple vegan leathers that do right by the planet and all the animals who live on it.
