Dying, Abandoned Boxer Found in Ditch Gets a Second Chance at Life
A brown-and-white boxer was recently discovered by sheriff’s deputies in Jefferson County, Alabama, lying in a ditch, severely dehydrated and with a chain wrapped so tightly around his neck that it had become embedded in his skin. Deputies were able to find the dog, who had a deep, open wound from the chain, after acting on a tip from a concerned passerby, according to reports.
The dog is recovering with Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS) Animal Care & Control, but police have yet to determine who is responsible for neglecting and abandoning him. PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime.
Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450 or GBHS Animal Care & Control at 205-591-6522, extension 4.
This dog endured agonizing pain and immense loneliness after he was left to rot with a chain around his neck. Help us find the person(s) responsible for inflicting all that misery, so they can be held accountable.
Dogs belong indoors with the rest of the family, not chained up alone in the backyard, eating, sleeping, and relieving themselves all in the same few square feet of space. Dogs left outdoors are also defenseless, which makes them easy targets for thieves, dogfighters, and other cruel people. In addition, chaining dogs—who are highly social pack animals—deprives them of social interaction, which can make them become aggressive.
We need your help to find out who did this!
Sharing this information with your friends, family, and social media followers might be the only way to apprehend those responsible for this act. Even if you don’t live in Jefferson County, publicizing this story will discourage others everywhere from committing acts of violence against animals if they know they can’t get away with it.
