No More Shelter Animals for Experiments in Utah
March 2011
One year after the Utah legislature changed the state’s pound-seizure law following PETA’s shocking undercover investigation at the University of Utah laboratories, the university announced that it would no longer purchase dogs and cats from shelters for use in cruel and deadly experiments. The university’s decision came as a result of a vigorous campaign spearheaded by PETA against the university and the last shelter in the state that voluntarily supplied animals for experiments. The school’s policy change also pushed it to replace some animal laboratories with humane non-animal alternatives, completely halted other cruel animal experiments, and resulted in an increase in animal adoptions at Utah shelters.
