At approximately 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, a severely emaciated pit-bull mix wandered into a Home Depot in Watertown. Veterinarians found that the approximately 1-year-old unaltered dog had several apparent cigarette burns on his chest and hind legs, had notches cut into his ears, and weighed only 26 pounds—roughly half the normal weight of a dog his size.
The dog, named Sully by police, is expected to make a full recovery and be available for adoption. However, police have yet to determine who is responsible for abusing, neglecting, and abandoning him. That’s why PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime.

“This sweet dog was apparently deliberately burned, over and over, as he wasted away from starvation,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA is urging anyone with information about this case to come forward immediately so that this dog’s abuser can be held accountable and stopped from hurting anyone else.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—cautions families to keep an eye on animal companions when they’re outdoors and never leave them unattended in the backyard, where they can be hurt by other animals or cruel humans.
Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact Watertown Animal Control at 617-972-6446.
