What types of companies will I find in the online shopping guide?

The online guide includes only companies that manufacture cosmetics, personal care products, household cleaning products, and office supplies. PETA’s Caring Consumer Project was founded because the law does not require that these types of products be tested on animals, yet manufacturers of these products conduct animal testing. Manufacturers of these types of products that still conduct animal testing should be boycotted in order to pressure them to eliminate all animal testing.

The online guide does not include companies that manufacture only products that are required by law to be tested on animals (e.g., pharmaceuticals, automotive and garden chemicals, food additives, etc.). While PETA is opposed to all animal testing, our quarrel in this matter is with the regulatory agencies that require animal testing. Nonetheless, it is important to let manufacturers of these types of products know that it is their responsibility to convince the regulatory agencies that there are better ways to determine product safety.

The companies found here may include companies that manufacture both products that are and products that are not required by law to be tested on animals, but in order to be listed in our online guide, a company must not conduct any animal tests that are not required by law.
