A German shepherd was found with severe burns along her back just before 10 p.m. on Monday, April 25, on Power Inn Road across the street from Danny Nunn Park. Authorities believe that the dog, who is receiving extensive veterinary care for her injuries, may have been abandoned or thrown from a car, they but have yet to make any arrests in the case. That’s why PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the crime.
“It takes a dangerous lack of empathy to horrifically burn a dog and then leave her for dead, suffering alone and in agony,” says PETA Senior Director Colleen O’Brien. “PETA urges anyone with information about this case to come forward immediately, before this culprit hurts anyone else.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—advises families to keep their animal companions safely indoors and never leave them unattended outside, where they may be stolen or hurt by cruel people. Dogs should always be accompanied in the backyard and escorted on walks on a comfortable, secure harness and leash.
Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to call the City of Sacramento Animal Care Services at 916-808-5855.
