The Conroe, Texas, Police Department found a tiger cub roaming in a residential neighborhood yesterday—and PETA is eager to assist animal control officers in placing her in an accredited sanctuary: Lions, Tigers & Bears, which is located just outside San Diego and is accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries.
“This young and vulnerable cub has reportedly been subjected to the mutilation of declawing, and she deserves to live her life in an accredited sanctuary that can give her the care she needs in a beautiful, naturalistic environment,” says PETA Foundation Deputy Director of Captive Animal Law Enforcement Brittany Peet. “Conroe authorities have the opportunity to do the right thing for this cub, and PETA is calling on them to let us help them do that without further delay.”
PETA’s motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment or abuse in any other way,” and more information about the dangers of exotic “pets” and the cruelty of declawing cats—the equivalent of amputating fingers up to the first knuckle—is available here and here, respectively.
