Five-year-old Melbourne resident Evan LeFevre has brought smiles to faces across the nation thanks to his energy, creativity, and compassion toward animals. Now he’s been chosen as the male winner of PETA Kids’ 2016 Cutest Vegan Kids contest, beating out dozens of contestants 12 and under and earning a trophy, an animal-friendly prize pack, and a year’s worth of bragging rights.
“The joy and enthusiasm that Evan brings to every adorable online video or earnest conversation with friends and family members have earned him PETA Kids’ 2016 Cutest Vegan Kid award,” says PETA Senior Director of Youth Outreach and Campaigns Marta Holmberg. “Every vegan kid sets a compassionate example for all ages and makes the world a better place by the forkful.”
When his mother went vegan after watching Cowspiracy, Evan chose to join her because he “loves animals”—and since then, his 70-year-old grandfather has made the switch to plant-based meals, too. The kindergartner designed his own T-shirt featuring a vegan motto that he wrote at age 4: “Don’t eat cows because they suffer & die. They don’t like it & neither do I!” He enjoys sharing vegan meals with his friends and classmates, with spicy dishes like burritos being his favorite. And speaking of “shares,” he has garnered thousands of views on Facebook and YouTube for his fun pro-vegan videos, including a memorable freestyle rap.
PETA Kids—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—selected the winners based on several factors, including vote count. For more information, please visit PETAKids.com/CutestVegan.
