PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman released the following statement regarding Hermès’ response to PETA’s exposé of ostrich-leather farms and slaughterhouses:
It’s hard to take Hermès seriously when the company is denying that ostriches come from farms. Ostriches don’t grow in tanneries, and nearly 2 million people have viewed PETA’s video showing that juvenile ostriches are shocked, smacked, killed, plucked, and skinned for Hermès and other “luxury” bags. Despite any so-called “audits” that may occur, everything in PETA’s exposé proves that it’s Hermès executives who have their heads in the sand.
PETA’s motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear,” and more information about our exposé is available here.
