It’s official: Vegan leather is in. More gorgeous vegan leather products are available every day, so there’s absolutely no reason to support the cruel production of leather from animals’ skin.
Leather is often made from the skins of cows, pigs, goats, and sheep. It can also be made from the skins of exotic animals, such as alligators, ostriches, and kangaroos, and even dogs and cats—who are slaughtered for their skin and meat in China, which exports unlabeled dog and cat leather around the world, so it’s virtually impossible to identify.
However, it’s easier to tell that a product was made from ostrich skin because of its recognizable bumps, which are actually the follicles where the feathers were ripped out. But we don’t need to steal ostriches’ skin to sport a luxurious look.
