Just in time for Valentine’s Day, a trio of appeeling PETA members—three “Banana Girls” wearing short yellow dresses—will converge on Vancouver with a towering pile of the fresh fruit to hand out to passersby. Bearing heart-shaped signs urging everyone to “get a rise out of veganism,” the sexy trio will point out that eating meat can cause impotence and other health issues that put a damper on bedroom time.

Where:           The west corner of Granville and W. Georgia streets, Vancouver

When:             Wednesday, February 10, noon

“What goes on in the kitchen has a lot to do with what goes on—or doesn’t—in the bedroom,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA’s message is that whether you’re after a sizzling physique or an increase in stamina, ditching meat and dairy foods for good is a great way to boost performance.”

The saturated fat in meat, eggs, and milk products contributes to increased cholesterol levels and hardening of the arteries, which can slow the flow of blood to all the body’s organs—not just to the heart. Eating meat and other animal products has been conclusively linked to heart disease, strokes, diabetes, obesity, and cancer.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—notes that when raised for food, chickens, cows, and pigs are denied all that is natural and important to them. They are castrated and debeaked and have notches cut out of their ears without any painkillers whatsoever.
