Below, please find a statement from PETA Foundation Deputy Director Brittany Peet regarding the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s recent release of its notice to Hollywild Animal Park of a nearly $19,000 penalty for the facility’s egregious violations of the Animal Welfare Act:

Hollywild Animal Park has to pay the piper for repeatedly leaving animals to suffer in filthy enclosures and without veterinary care from 2012 to 2014—and since that time, it has continued to neglect animals and break the law. Hollywild’s most recent inspection report describes bears confined to tiny concrete dens, a tiger caked in filth, and the deaths of two alpacas. Last year, Hollywild allowed 28 animals to suffer and die from an electrical fire. PETA has repeatedly called for the animals suffering at Hollywild to be moved to reputable sanctuaries, and this massive penalty should be the final nail in this scofflaw facility’s coffin.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—has made a factsheet on Hollywild available here.
