Just last month, the Waukegan Police Department received a harrowing call that led them to a dead cat who had been hung from a tree by a rope around her neck. While law enforcement continues to investigate the incident, officials have yet to make any arrests in connection with the case, prompting PETA to offer a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the crime, in addition to an offer of a $1,000 reward from Fat Cat Rescue in North Chicago.
“Someone in the Waukegan area was callous enough to subject this poor cat to the agony of being hanged, and that person is dangerous,” says PETA Senior Director Colleen O’Brien. “PETA is urging anyone with information about this case to come forward immediately, before anyone else is hurt.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—is urging families to keep their animal companions safely indoors and never leave them unattended outdoors, where they may be stolen or hurt by cruel people.
Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact the Waukegan Police Department at 847-360-9000.
