Young people on the lookout for a healthy, refreshing treat on the go are reaching for dairy-free juices and smoothies in droves. In recognition of retailer Jamba Juice‘s decision to add four new vegan-friendly smoothies to the mix, peta2, PETA’s youth division, is awarding it the title of Most Vegan-Friendly Chain in the 10th Annual Libby Awards. (“Libby” is for “liberation”—as in animal liberation.) Jamba Juice’s vegan-friendly smoothies contain creamy almond milk, and the chain also offers a dairy-free cinnamon pretzel.
“Jamba Juice has made its mark with healthy, delicious vegan options that young people are clamoring for,” says peta2 Senior Director of Youth Outreach and Campaigns Marta Holmberg. “peta2 encourages other chains to jump on the bandwagon now.”
The 10th Annual Libby Awards recognize winners in 21 categories, including Most Animal-Friendly Band, Best Vegan Meat, and Best Vegan “Dude” Product. Visitors to peta2.com/Libbys cast votes to help peta2 choose the Libby Award winners. peta2—whose motto reads, “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way”—based its selections on several factors, including vote count.
