From starring in a new adoption public service announcement for peta2, PETA’s youth division, to volunteering at local animal shelters—which lead singer Ashley Costello does back home in Orange County—New Years Day never hesitates to spread the word about why every animal deserves a loving home. Now the alternative rockers have won the title of Most Animal-Friendly Band in the 10th Annual Libby Awards for their efforts to promote compassion. (“Libby” is short for “liberation,” as in animal liberation.)

“Young people are drawn more than ever to artists who reflect their animal-friendly values, which New Years Day does every day,” says peta2 Senior Director of Youth Outreach and Campaigns Marta Holmberg. “peta2 is proud to recognize its commitment to ending the animal overpopulation crisis.”

The 10th Annual Libby Awards recognize winners in 21 categories, including Hero of the Year for Animals, Best Vegan Meat, and Best Vegan “Dude” Product. Visitors to peta2.com/Libbys cast votes to help peta2 choose the Libby Award winners. peta2—whose motto reads, “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way”—based its selections on several factors, including vote count.
