The votes have been tallied, and the results are in—and today, PETA Prime, a resource for baby boomers who want to live a healthy, humane, and rewarding life, has named 67-year-old Calabasas resident Roger Ewing the male winner of its 2015 Sexiest Vegan Over 50 Contest. Ewing, who was one of 10 finalists, will receive a photo shoot at PETA’s Bob Barker Building in Los Angeles and a gift basket packed with treats from the PETA Catalog.
“Roger is living proof that staying fit and healthy at any age can be as easy as choosing tasty vegan meals,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “Compassion and sex appeal always go hand in hand, and like all of PETA’s finalists, Roger has both in droves.”
A practicing Buddhist, amateur musician, and 35-year real estate broker, Ewing credits plant-based eating with giving him his nearly limitless energy and vitality as well as the stamina to run several miles a week and hit the gym for strength training. When he’s not paddleboarding or traveling the world, he can be found cuddled up beside his three rescued cats or stepping in for animals in need—such as when he raised $4,200 through GoFundMe to help pay for an injured dog’s surgery. In the past year alone, he’s also helped find homes for three dogs. “Kindness, compassion, and doing the right thing are very attractive,” says Ewing.
The female winner of this year’s contest, 71-year-old Linda Middlesworth, is an aerobics and vegan cooking instructor from Sacramento, California. Winners were selected by PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—based on several factors, including vote count.
