This past Saturday, Tennessee resident Hiromi Sato went for a walk with her two dogs, letting them off their leashes in a wooded area near her home. When she heard 5-year-old rescued border collie Mimi scream, she rushed to her side and found her on the ground with an arrow piercing her torso. Mimi died from her injuries. Authorities have yet to make any arrests in connection with the case, prompting PETA to offer a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the crime.
“One dog has already died from a painful and terrifying injury,” says PETA Senior Director Colleen O’Brien. “PETA is urging anyone with information about the attacker or attackers to come forward immediately—before anyone else gets hurt.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—reminds everyone to keep their animal companions near them on walks with a leash and a comfortable, secure harness and to keep a close eye on them when they’re outside.
PETA also asks anyone with information about this case to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-893-STOP (7867).
