With fall officially here, I thought your readers might be interested in PETA’s first-ever Fall Fashion Lookbook which was shot in Los Angeles and features designs from the winners of this year’s Vegan Fashion Awards—including Los Angeles’ own Tina Tangalakis of Della, this year’s Most Socially Conscious Company. From cork handbags to faux-fur stoles to the vegan leather “It” platform of the season, we’ve got autumn covered for any shopper who values eco- and animal-friendly fashion.
All of PETA’s 2015 Vegan Fashion Award winners are moving fashion into the future with sustainable production, high ethical standards, and cutting-edge innovation—and Della is no exception. Tangalakis studied costume design at the California Institute of the Arts and worked as a wardrobe stylist for film and television before leaving the design world in 2009 to search for a fulfilling way to make the world a better place. She found it in Hohoe, Ghana, where she teamed up with a local entrepreneur to launch Della. This woman-owned and -run fashion line is driven by its mission to create goods that give back to those most in need. The company’s beautiful accessories are handcrafted by members of the Hohoe community, whom Della provides with jobs, education, and skills training.
“The future of fashion today is forward-thinking, with fabrics that protect the planet and all of the animals who live on it, and that’s exactly what Tina Tangalakis is doing with Della,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA’s Fall Fashion Lookbook shows how easy it is to stay on-trend and wear your cruelty-free, eco-friendly values right on your sleeve.”
This year’s other winners include Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart of VAUTE (Most Innovative Designer), Joshua Katcher of Brave GentleMan (Most Influential Designer), Barbara Mattivy and Pamella Magpali of Insecta Shoes (Most Talented New Designers), and Reformation (Most Loved Vintage/Repurposed Designs). Details are available on PETA’s website and a short teaser video featuring fashions from the lookbook can be viewed here or downloaded here.
