The following statement is from Brittany Peet, PETA Foundation deputy director of Captive Animal Law Enforcement, regarding California’s proposed bullhook ban, which was passed today by the California State Senate:
When this historic bullhook ban goes into effect in 2018, no elephant in California will ever again be beaten, hooked, jabbed, or threatened with these weapons that resemble fireplace pokers, or the wielder will pay the price. PETA looks forward to seeing Gov. Jerry Brown sign this bill into law and make sure that 2018 is a seminal year for kindness to animals.
