As baseball fever sweeps the nation, there’s good news for animal-friendly Red Sox fans: Fenway Park has landed the number nine spot on PETA’s list of the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Major League Ballparks of 2015. Fans in the stands rave about the new Fenway Farms portobello sandwich, kale salad, and fried apples. Guests in the suites and clubs have a new menu of vegan dishes to enjoy this season, including a roasted-carrot salad and a black bean and quinoa burger served with kale chips.
“Red Sox fans have a huge spread of plant-based fare to enjoy, from fresh salads to hearty vegan sandwiches,” says Kenneth Montville, PETA’s senior campaign strategist. “Each park ranked in PETA’s top 10 offers a tasty variety of veg-friendly foods that are helping to set the standard for parks across the country.”
Topping PETA’s list is the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Dodger Stadium, followed by the Philadelphia Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park in second place, the Washington Nationals’ Nationals Park in third, the San Diego Padres’ Petco Park in fourth, and the New York Mets’ Citi Field in fifth. Rounding out the top 10 are the San Francisco Giants’ AT&T Park, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ PNC Park, the Colorado Rockies’ Coors Field, and the Chicago White Sox’s U.S. Cellular Field.
PETA also ranked the top five vegetarian-friendly AA minor league ballparks. Leading the pack is the New Britain Rock Cats’ New Britain Stadium, followed by the Tulsa Drillers’ ONEOK Field, the Biloxi Shuckers’ MGM Park, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos’ Pensacola Bayfront Stadium, and the Erie SeaWolves’ Jerry Uht Park.
Fenway Park will receive a framed certificate from PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat.”
