Hot on the heels of her performance at the sixth annual VidCon, 15-year-old singer and dancer Jordyn Jones stars in a new pro-adoption campaign for peta2, PETA’s youth division. In the ad, available here, the “I’m Dappin’” singer appears hugging her two adopted dogs, Bentley and Simba, next to the words, “Adopt, Don’t Shop.” The ad continues, “Visit your local shelter to save a life and find your new best friend.”
In an exclusive video with peta2, Jordyn shares the story of how her family adopted their dogs, Bentley and Simba. “When we adopted these two dogs, we totally felt like a hero, and now they love life and they’re having so much fun,” she says. “When you go to a shelter, you are literally saving that dog’s life.” She goes on to encourage everyone to take good care of their dogs—including never leaving them locked in a parked car during hot weather.
More than 6 million dogs and cats enter animal shelters every year in the U.S., and half of them have to be euthanized simply because there aren’t enough good homes for them. That’s why Jordyn and peta2—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—ask caring people to adopt animals from local shelters and never buy them from pet stores or breeders, which add to the homeless-animal crisis.
Known for her appearances as a dancer on programs such as X-Factor and Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition, Jordyn Jones is now a social media powerhouse, with more than 1 million Instagram followers and nearly 60 million views on YouTube. She released the music video for her first single, “I’m Dappin’,” on Wednesday.
Jordyn joins a growing list of celebrities—including Fifth Harmony, P!nk, Noah Cyrus, Sia, Kesha, and many others—who’ve teamed up with peta2 to promote kindness to animals.
